Ayden K: Week 2: How 9/11 affected the U.S. then and now
As we all know, on this day 22 years ago, the most devastating terrorist attack to ever happen hit u.s. spoil. On the morning of September 11th, 2001, two planes hit the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. These attacks killed over 2,000 people and left even more injured. Now, you may be wondering how this affects people today. It does in many ways, such as increased airport security, increased cohesion amongst Americans, and the grief felt today by many people who lost someone during the 9/11 attacks.
Airport security. While many people take the T.S.A. as some annoying thing you have to do before you get on planes, it is so much more than that. The T.S.A. is one of the many things standing between our country and another attack just like the one that happened on 9/11. Whether it be the X-rays, liquid requirements, having to take off your shows, and so much more, all of it is for you and everyone else’s protection in the air and on the ground.
The uniting of the American people. As many of you know, America has always been divided; whether it be on who you want for the next president or which sports team you root for, America has been divided. But all that changed once the planes hit the towers. People all over the country, no matter race, religion, beliefs, or anything else, banded together to help this country through that terrible time. People put themselves in danger to help others, hospitals opened their doors to everyone regardless of insurance, and people who never would talk to one another prayed for and supported our first responders who died during the attacks and those who died helping others live. While devastating, this attack made America a more united nation than it has been in its history.
Grief. Many still grieve and mourn the losses of those they lost on 9/11. Something was taken from their lives, something they can never get back. And to those people, I am so sorry for your loss.
No matter who you are or what you do, 9/11 has been and will continue to affect your life, so what do you think? How has 9/11 affected you or someone you know?

9/11 has impacted my life greatly. To me, everyday life for individuals nationwide has been affected greatly by 9/11, even those not directly harmed or those without family directly harmed by the event. As mentioned, simple things such as airport security have been altered significantly due to 9/11.
