Leah Mousseri - Week 1 - Are You Ready for the New Saw Movie?

The Saw movie series currently has a total of nine movies with fans eagerly waiting for the tenth to be released on September 29th this year. I myself have only seen five out of the nine movies so far and with the tenth movie's release date less than a month away I have made it a goal for myself to watch the rest of the series before the newest film is out. Before I go further into this post, I would like to say there will be no talk of spoilers for any of the Saw movies, so if you plan on binging the series as well you don't need to worry!
Saw has been around since the first movie was released in October 2004 and has grown in popularity since. One of the most appealing things about Saw is also the most unappealing thing about it to many viewers and that is its use of gore and torture simply for the sake of being gruesome. There are many scenes in the Saw movies that give the movie its R rating including graphic brain surgery, limbs being twisted and torn, and many more horrific scenes. However, the reason I was drawn to the Saw movies was due to its realistic horror story.
Most horror movies, books, and other pieces of art tell of a spiritual or magical thing that is trying to harm the protagonist in some way. To name a few examples, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Ring, and Poltergeist are all horror movies that strike fear in the viewer through paranormal monsters or people. In my experience, this ruins the entire "horror" aspect of the movie since these horrific events that the main characters go through don't occur in real life. On the other hand, all the things that Jigsaw, the main antagonist of the Saw movies, does are crimes that anyone could commit. The thought of "this could happen to me" is instilled in the viewer while watching as people are kidnapped and killed in such appalling ways and is the real horror that keeps people like me up at night(this is the real reason why I'm sleep-deprived).
With only a few weeks until Saw X is released, I am struggling to find time to watch the remaining four movies in this series. School has just started and I barely have any free time when I get home, as previously stated, watching these movies can sometimes make it difficult for me to sleep at night(I know I'm a coward) which certainly doesn't help with all the schoolwork and tests I need to complete. Despite this, I am determined to watch the rest of these movies before the new film comes out so I can enjoy it alongside other Saw fans!

Do you plan on watching the new Saw movie, Saw X?
What's your favorite scary movie?

  1. I've heard mixed things about Saw as a franchise, but the main point I usually see is that it started off good, but the quality decreased over time. While I haven't watched any of the Saw movies (and currently don't intend to,) I'm glad you still enjoy them. Have fun watching it!

  2. You know it! I love the saw franchise and can only hope this one is better than the last few. Your blog was very informative and gave me a better history of the saw franchise. SO for my fav scary movie it would have to be the Shining, its a classic, and in my opinion the best horror movie.
