Zander 2: Thirty Pages of Possible

For the past six months, I’ve been working on a concept for a television show. I’ve written episode descriptions, and thirty pages worth of plot summaries for a show that will most likely never exist. A short summary of the concept is that a boy forms a contract with a spirit in order to battle against five other spirits, who are working to hunt down both the boy and the one he contracted with. This story has so far spanned over a season and a half, or thirty eight entirely theoretical episodes.

Well, theoretical until a few days ago. I’ve written stories for a very, very long time, and the whole time my mom has been trying to get me to publish my work. For one reason or another, I never have. However, this series has become one of my mom’s favorites, so she looked into different mediums, which is where we discovered the writing medium of light novels and flash fiction. Both of these are ways to publish short segments of stories for a cheap amount. When all of the segments are bought, you end up with something the length and cost of a complete book.

So, my mom made me a deal. Complete a script for an episode, and I’d be paid fifty dollars. So I got to work. I looked up the average length for a script for an episode of television, which ended up being between six and twelve pages. After a few hours of work, I completed a full script of the first episode of this show, which ended up being about nine pages long. Now, after it’s edited, one of my first works will most likely be published.

With my mother’s help, I’ve managed to fully complete the first episode of this originally theoretical story. We are currently working on finding somewhere to publish it, and to gather attention so that it’s noticed by a larger audience. So, those thirty pages of an originally completely hypothetical, may just be possible. Have you ever published anything? If not, have you ever written or made something you want published? If the answer to either of these is yes, what is it?

  1. I've never published anything of my own. I've also never really written much creatively outside of school. I do admire the effort you put into this, and the extensive time as well. It makes me inspired to possibly pursue something similar myself.
