Jason's Week 4: Marvel or DC

For decades there have been debates on whether Marvel or DC is superior. Everyone who has read comics, loves superheroes, had action figures, or washed movies has indulged in a conversation about this. These are two of the most iconic and influential comic book publishers, with a wide variety of films based on their comics. Marvel Comics was founded in 1939, on groups and characters like the X-men and Avengers. DC comics was founded 1934 and introduced characters like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Both Marvel and DC have a wide variety of characters, teams, superheroes, and supervillains and the competition and mutual enjoyment for both of these production companies have led to awesome crossovers, such as The Avengers vs. The Justice League and Marvel vs. DC.

Since I was younger, I have always loved movies from both of these production companies, but I have always loved Marvel more. I have seen every movie in chronological order and all of the movies from every phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In my opinion, phase one and phase three are the best and have the most captivating, original, and interesting movies. I also find Marvel's strong emphasis on character development and their team dynamic more interesting and inspiring to an extent. Plus, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the all time highest-grossing franchise by almost 6 billion dollars. So clearly I'm not the only one who loves Marie and they are superior. Marvel also does a better job of intertwining all of their movies together and connecting the story lines. Lastly, over the many years Marvel has successfully rebooted its universe, for new generations, while keeping and respecting the legacy of its classic characters and comics.

Do you prefer Marvel and DC and if so, who is your favorite character?

  1. This was a great article with good points! I prefer Marvel as well since I grew up watching the movies and reading the comics more than the DC franchise. My favorite character in Marvel would have to be Deadpool because of his humor.

  2. Wow, I had no idea that these franchises were so old! I didn't grow up on either franchise so my knowledge of them is limited, but I prefer Marvel movies more; they have cool world building, and it helps that a central part of many movies is in a familiar place like New York instead of somewhere made up (Gotham). If I had to choose a favorite character, it would probably be the Hulk because he destroys things and is green.

  3. I personally prefer the Marvel franchise as well. While yes their more recent content has been kind of a let down, their original movies are still some of the best out there. DC movies and shows are typically very repetitive with recurring plots that are only interesting the first few times. While on the other hand, Marvel was able to create the whole cumulative story of the infinity saga. It was just so well made that if you rewatched any of the movie you could see how it was all set up for this big event since the very beginning.

  4. I feel like while Marvel has better movies the Dc universe has better comics. But if I had to pick one to say was my favorite I would pick Marvel. As for favorite character I would say Star-Lord also known as peter quill, I really love the character development he goes through.
