Meital Pavolotzky, Week 4: Stop Your Comments

Like any other person, I use my phone a lot. But lately, I have noticed that it has started to take a toll on me. Sometimes, I’ll get on a social media website and I see bad things happening in our world. After repeatedly seeing bad news and horrible things, I feel sick and don’t want to look at my phone any longer. What makes it even worse, is that people comment their own opinions. Even when there are opinions that I agree with, I sometimes still feel stressed out about any opinion being posted. I feel that when people post their opinions it makes the facts less reliable and it introduces a way for them to let go of their anger by starting more hatred.

I know that many people post based on love not hate, but by commenting on something it causes so much backlash and it makes the social media experience so much worse. This is a problem that the new generation is facing. We get most, if not all, of our information from social media and we are able to comment to the world about our feelings on any event. Older generations, on the other hand, got their information from newspapers, TV reports, or other platforms but what they all had in common was that you could only comment to the people physically with you.

I believe that this was a much better way to get informed on current events. The comments did not add unnecessary hate or feelings. They also did not provoke needless fights. Comments impact our mental health which can impact our lives. So, what do you think? Should comments in social media not be allowed? How often do you comment and have you ever wished that you did not have to view the comments?
