Sarah - Week 7 - Is Breakfast Necessary
Although many people say that not eating breakfast is a dishonor to yourself, in my opinion, the necessity of breakfast depends on the individual. The people that are for breakfast typically recommend smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day. Their reasoning for this is that eating whenever you are hungry can keep your energy levels stable. They also say that this can keep your cholesterol levels stable since you aren't consuming that much food at once, which would make it easier for your body to digest.
However, the opposing side of the breakfast debate thinks you should have a few large meals. They think that doing this will keep you satiated throughout the day without the need for energy boosts. In one study, they found that people who consume larger, less frequent meals are typically less hungry on average compared to someone who eats many small meals throughout the day, even if they were consuming the same number of calories and nutrients. Nutritionists think this could lead to weight loss since they are less likely to overeat.
I personally believe that many small meals are more enjoyable than a few big ones, so I typically eat breakfast. Plus, you can still eat a few large meals and eat breakfast, although that would mean having a very large breakfast and probably skipping lunch. Either way, I think that as long as you are getting the energy to function, then you can decide whether or not breakfast is in the cards for you.

This is a great blog! I like how you gave your personal opinion and also provided nutritional facts. I usually don't eat breakfast due to the lack of time I have to get ready. However, I think breakfast is very important, and everyone should have something light and healthy before starting the day.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea there is a debate surrounding how much breakfast someone eats in the morning... This blog post helped give me some insight on the pros and cons of each side! I think that breakfast is important, as I function less effectively in the mornings if I am hungry, but I do usually skip lunch since the breakfast I eat fuels me until dinner (though I might snack in between). I think that people should at least drink something in the morning to "break the fast" of the night, because even if someone isn't hungry, dehydration is something that should probably be avoided.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great blog and I found this extremely intriguing. Even though on most school days I don't eat breakfast due to a lack of time. Breakfast is an extremely important meal that fuels you for the entire day. I always make sure before big sports games and tournaments that I eat a healthy and nutrient filled breakfast for the day. I think everyone should atleast have something small to eat or drink to start the day.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, me personally I love breakfast! I feel like it gives me that burst of energy I need to get through my day as well as helping me to focus more. On days that I don't eat breakfast I don't feel as energetic and am not able to pay as good attention as I do when I eat breakfast.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I eat breakfast ever day, and if I do not then I find it very hard to function through the rest of the day. Breakfast gives me the energy I need even for simple tasks in the early hours of the day specifically, and overall the result of whether I do or do not eat breakfast can significantly improve or harm the quality of my day because of this.
