Sarah - Week 8 - The house across the street
Over two years or so, there has been a lot of movement in the ownership of houses in my area. There are eighteen houses, and eight of them have been sold and bought over the last two years. The man who lives across the street from me bought two of them. At the time, this caused a lot of gossip in my area since he went about this abnormally. He bought one house and then went to the next-door neighbor and asked if their house was for sale. They originally said no, but he persisted and eventually asked them to name their price, so naturally, he acquired the house. The original residents of that house then bought the house next to mine so that they could stay in the same area. All this was so the man could knock down the two houses to make one excessively large house.
The house has been under construction for a long time, and they have just started decorating this month. A mote surrounds the house, with a waterfall off one of the walls and two large sculptural heads in front. In addition, the whole front of the house is mainly made of glass, so you can see the entire inside. He has a garage with a car elevator to store extra fancy cars that he can flaunt. He also has the tackiest kid's rooms. One has Lego walls, and the other has a neon sign and a pink bunny ear bed. I should not know this since I have never been inside the house, and these are children's rooms, but no, these rooms are on full display since they are behind just a sheet of glass.
You could tell that this man likes to flaunt his wealth because his house is the opposite of humble and understated. My parents do not like him because good people don't typically choose to do that. He has also created an annoyance for us because he changed a rule in our area. This rule used to be commercial vehicles could only park on one side of the street, and this side would switch off every day so that it would be easier to move on the road. However, since he is on the board and gets two votes for having two lots, he changed the rule. Now, all of his trucks are always parked right in front of our house, making it hard to get in and out of our driveway.
It sounds like this man loves to abuse the power of his wealth whether it inconveniences others or not, which is of course extremely rude and would greatly upset me if he were my neighbor. From what you said, he reminds me of people who have never grown up without the privilege's of wealth and don't understand or care about those who aren't as fortunate (I'm not saying that's what kind of person he is it's just a comparison of course).
